The iconic Penthouse in Berlin Mitte, Germany

Many penthouses in the German capital can boast of a great view over Berlin, but there is none where you could watch the Berliner Dom and TV tower while swimming in your own rooftop pool. This duplex penthouse with a 360-degree rooftop terrace in Berlin-Mitte offers you everything.

The building at Torstrasse 140 is a well-known address in Berlin. This address is so iconic it even has its own hashtag on Instagram, as those who got the chance to be invited there, could not help but admire the rooftop pool. The 20-meter rooftop pool is one of the biggest in a residential building in Europe. This address is iconic not only because of its magnificent rooftop. It is also a protected landmark. It was built in 1911/12, and during the GDR times, it was housing the Railway Directorate. Some of the historical elements of those times were preserved by the Carlos Zwick architects during the extensive refurbishment in 2001 when the building was turned into residential homes. For example, the common spa area on the ground floor is built in the historical assembly hall of the Directorate. As well you find details from the past in the penthouse itself. An old wheel to pull documents and files between the different levels is still there.

The building is also unique due to the fact that it is managed as a co-op by only 16 owners. They really care about their community. None of their names can be found at the doorbell downstairs. Most of them are known residents of Berlin.

The concierge serves the community from Monday to Saturday through welcoming guests and visitors at the spectacular foyer. This increases the privacy, security, and comfort of the owners immensely.

The elevator, built in a glass box, will take you to the 6th floor. From here you have the main entrance to the penthouse. The main door opens directly into the spacious living room which is lit up with light coming through the floor to ceiling windows.

The 102 sqm living room is the heart of this penthouse, a place to entertain your guests or spend cosy family evenings at the fireplace. From here you have the spectacular unobstructed views over most Berlin highlights such as TV Tower, Berlin Cathedral, the Parliament Building, Potsdamer Platz, the Synagogue, Victory Column of Tiergarten and other Berlin monuments.

From the living room, you have direct access to the rooftop pool, so if you wish to organize a poolside soirée for your friends, both guests and staff will have easy access.

The kitchen, which is designed by Jamie Oliver, a personal friend of the owner, is fully equipped and is located directly next to the living area. Here there is enough space for a family table for family breakfast, from where you also have direct access to a south facing terrace for afternoon coffees in the sun. The kitchen has another door which leads to a spacious utility room, which is convenient for organizing bigger events and receptions.

The impressive 120 sqm rooftop terrace on the 7th floor has a unique 360° degree view over the whole of Berlin. Nothing obstructs your view from here; you are actually looking above all the other rooftops. When we say you can see all of Berlin from here, it is not an exaggeration.

The private areas and family rooms are located on the lower 5th floor and are connected with a living room with a seamless, elegant staircase. The highlight of the floor is the master bedroom with floor to ceiling south facing windows which give the same spectacular view as the living room and the rooftop terrace. The ensuite bathroom with bathtub and shower leave nothing to be desired.

Across the master bedroom, you have a walk-in closet. Here you will also find 4 more bedrooms plus an additional dressing room. This level has 3 full bathrooms, and there is another guest toilet on the main penthouse floor next to the living room.

For those who like to work from home or read, there is a library and office corner with direct daylight. Here you will find the historical details of the building, which is the old wheel which was used in the DDR times to pull the documents upstairs.

This 5th floor also has a separate entrance into the penthouse from the building staircase, which can be used for cases when you have guests in the living room and do not want your kids or nanny to be seen coming in our out of the premises.

Another advantage of the penthouse is the 6 parking spots directly in the building which are included in the price which is priceless. Those who live around the area know how difficult it is to find street parking here.

The penthouse owner would also own two cellars downstairs, one of which is designed as a wine cellar.

The building has several communal areas shared by the co-op community of 16 owners. The lobby area with concierge desk, designed with an impressive 30m high light structure with a glass roof, the reception hall that is used for Christmas parties or children’s birthdays, and, the magnificent spa area designed in art-deco, which has a sauna, massage room, steam room, gym, and whirlpools.

The location of the penthouse is one of the most sought-after locations of Berlin; it is the area of Rosenthaler Platz in Berlin-Mitte. Locals call it the TriBeCa of Berlin.

No other European city has experienced such a dramatic change in the 21st century as Berlin did. From communism to capitalism, from being just a city to becoming Germany’s capital and a city of power, from a ‘poor but sexy’ to an international start-up hub attracting people from all over the world. And layer that with Germany being the economic driver of Europe. And the epicenter of all this is Berlin-Mitte, the area between Rosenthaler Platz and the Brandenburg Gate. And if youlook at all other cities like London, Paris, New York, you understand that buying a penthouse with best views in the city center of Berlin is priceless. In the area, where there is hardly anything else being built. There is rarely an opportunity to buy a penthouse with luxury amenities such as this one in the center of Berlin. These kinds of apartments rarely come to the market.
