Best coffee-shops in Kreuzberg (incl. video)

I am a big coffee lover, and whenever I have client visits and we are visiting Berlin properties, I always take them on a tour of the neighborhood to show them the area, give them a feeling of the location and its lifestyle.

I also take them to local coffee shops and give them a taste of how their Sunday morning can look like if they would settle around the corner. Today, I want to share the same feeling with my readers and give you the top 3 coffee spots of Kreuzberg area. I accompany my story with a short video so you can really get the feeling of it.

Number 1: KAFFEEBAR Berlin at Gräferstrasse

The area around Gräferstrasse is called „Gräferkiez“, and it is one of the most beloved areas of Berlin-Kreuzberg. This cafe is probably the coziest of all my recommendations. In the summer you can enjoy a sunny terrace with great outside seating arrangement, and in the winter you can get comfortable in the armchair in the back room.

This place has early opening hours, its open already from 07h30 on weekdays, which is great for people who want to grab breakfast before work (some coffee shops only open at 09h00, which is too late, so it gives them an advantage). Breakfast choice is much more variable than just regular pastries and coffee, you can have savory grilled sandwiches with different topics, as well as poached eggs, eggs benedict, chia oatmeal porridge and so on. They have enough vegan and vegetarian options.

My favorite pick is grilled sandwich with zucchini, spinach and cashew cream, and for a sweet finish I choose homemade peanut butter cookie. They have a number of lunch options as well such as buddha bowl or falafel bowl or soup of the day.

Number 2: Populus Café at Maybachufer

Located in the greenery of Maybachufer, facing the canal, this café probably has the best taste of coffee in Berlin. They are not only a coffee shop, but also a coffee roastery, which means they roast coffee themselves and you can buy it to take home. Coffee is being measured for every cup.

Their ice latte options are also great. Here you will find some sandwiches as well as cookies and pastries. I recommend vegan coconut cookie.

The cafe is cosy both inside and outside. If you sit outside you are facing Maybachufer and the canal.

Number 3: Five Elephant at Reichenbergerstrasse

Many Berliners know this place for their coffee beans that you can also buy to take home. They have two locations, one in Kreuzberg and one in Mitte. Here you can order the best iced latte in Berlin. The Kreuzberg café is more spacious than the one in Mitte,  it has enough seating space both inside and outside.

I recommend: Chocolate peanut banana bread.

Here is a short video of my Sunday walk in Kreuzberg, including all 3 coffee shops I mentioned.
